Distortion Modeler
Large structure machining can suffer from distortion due to the relief of pre-machined stresses. Sources of these initial stresses include forging, rolling and heat treatment. AdvantEdge Distortion Modeler is finite-element based software that accurately represents the initial stresses in the material and complex tool paths to determine the resulting part distortion. This allows the user to minimize machined part distortion and reduce scrap parts due to them being out of tolerance. AdvantEdge Distortion Modeler features the ability to read APT and 5-axis G-Code to determine the finished part geometry and the ability to import both STEP and STL files. This allows for fast part distortion prediction during the part design phase. An included initial stress database for rolled plate of different thicknesses is continually expanding, but for those materials not yet in the AdvantEdge Distortion Modeler database a custom initial stress input is available for full states of stress. This product is able to predict distortion on large, thin walled aerospace parts and large, thick walled vehicle structure parts.
AdvantEdge Distortion Modeler is currently undergoing Beta testing and is being used by the Third Wave Systems applications engineering group on several distortion prediction and reduction tasks. If you would like further information please contact sales@thirdwavesys.com.
