Third Wave Systems To Partner with NAVAIR in
$2.1M Phase II Project
November 13, 2008
HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT – Third Wave Systems is excited to announce the receipt of a $2.1 million Phase II SBIR project through the United States Naval Air Systems Command. The two-year contract extends previous Phase I SBIRs awarded to TWS, with the goal to implement high-performance machining technologies into the Department of Defense’s V-22 and JSF programs. Third Wave Systems’ industry-leading machining modeling software will play a critical role in the success of the project. The announcement was made during the 2008 National SBIR Conference in Hartford, Connecticut.
For the next two years, Third Wave Systems will enhance AdvantEdge software capabilities while working closely with several NAVAIR suppliers to identify areas for productivity improvement in V-22 and JSF programs. For the V-22 program, TWS will partner with Bell Helicopter and NAVAIR suppliers to improve the production of titanium-based structures through analyses of cycle times and cutting forces. For the JSF program, Third Wave Systems will collaborate with Lockheed Martin and NAVAIR suppliers to analyze existing machining practices and reduce distortions seen when machining forged aluminum bulkhead components.
Third Wave Systems has been participating in SBIR programs since 2002. In this newest Phase II SBIR contract, all three software packages – AdvantEdge FEM, AdvantEdge Production Module, and AdvantEdge Distortion Modeler – will be instrumental to the program’s success.
