Third Wave Systems Announces New Version of AdvantEdge FEM

Focuses on Increased Computational Performance

More than 50 people attended the unveiling of Third Wave Systems’ AdvantEdge FEM v4.8 at the Japan International Machine Tool Fair (JIMTOF). Highlights of this release are a significant increase in computational performance and an enhanced STEP file import capability.

Third Wave AdvantEdge FEM is materials-based, modeling software that accurately predicts forces, tool temperature and wear, stresses, and strains for dramatically reducing product lifecycle costs of machined components. The software is designed to give engineers the ability to improve material removal rates, part quality, and tool performance while decreasing the need for trial and error testing.

"I credit our development team for significant innovations in areas of adaptive meshing, which resulted in at least a 2X performance bump over version 4.7,” said Third Wave Systems President and CEO, Kerry Marusich. “Our cutting tool customers have been instrumental in the improvements in STEP file import. Version 4.8 is a significant step forward for AdvantEdge FEM.”

AdvantEdge FEM v4.8 will feature improved micromachining simulations, enhanced analysis of complex tool geometries by CAD file import, and an expanded materials library with more than 120 alloys and other aerospace and automotive materials. Additional capabilities include the analysis of nose and oblique turning, indexable and solid milling, grooving, sawing, parting, threading, broaching, and indexable and solid drilling.
