The International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS), Sept. 6-13, 2006, marked the release of version 5.2 of Third Wave Systems’ AdvantEdge Production Module software.

Production Module is a process analysis solution that integrates workpiece material properties, CAD/CAM inputs, and machine dynamics into one model. Combining these factors is a vital step in reducing costs, improving cycle time, and avoiding unnecessary capital equipment expenditures while maximizing performance.

New features in Production Module 5.2 include an expanded workpiece database; improved twist, indexable, and custom drill analysis; tapered ball-nose milling; and automated optimization for CNC programs. These features have been validated by dozens of aerospace and automotive customers and developed through partial funding from various Department of Defense (DoD) programs.

"People need to realize just how powerful a material-based model can be,” said Kerry Marusich, president and CEO of Third Wave Systems. “With this new version, we have been able to achieve cycle time reductions as large as 80 percent.”

Additional AdvantEdge Production Module capabilities include chatter prediction across the entire tool path, complete G-code and APT-code import, and alloy-specific force and horsepower prediction for optimal machine utilization.
