Third Wave Systems Releases Version 4.4 of AdvantEdge Classic

Third Wave Systems is pleased to announce the release of the newest version of AdvantEdge Classic, the finite element based machining modeling software. Significant improvements in the areas of computational speed, analysis options and the addition of several new materials make AdvantEdge Classic, Version 4.4 the ultimate solution for machining process modeling.

Performance improvements of 50% or more increase efficiency and enable markedly shorter simulation times. In addition, the development of “rapid mode” in AdvantEdge Classic 3D allows the delivery of a slightly less refined 3D model with a three-fold increase in speed. This allows the user to create experimental models without sacrificing the simulation time required for full analysis. Another time-saving feature of Version 4.4 is the new 3D initial mesh viewer. The viewer can be utilized to double-check the 3D tool and workpiece set-ups before starting the simulation. This increases confidence in the accuracy of the simulation and eliminates the need for rerunning the simulation due to set-up errors.

Several new analysis capabilities have also been integrated into AdvantEdge Classic, Version 4.4. New tool wear prediction capability allows 2D prediction of tool wear for new or current machining processes. This capability enables optimization of tool design and process parameters without requiring any machine time or testing. The ability to specify tool thermal boundary conditions has also been added to Version 4.4. This feature provides the ability to model the effect of coolant on tooling and the workpiece. In order to better visualize the effect of temperature on tooling, the tool rake face data extraction has been enhanced. Another analysis improvement is illustrated in the form of automated residual stress analysis in 3D. This feature dramatically improves both the speed and accuracy of residual stress prediction.

In addition to the performance and analysis improvements, process improvements have also been included in Version 4.4. First and foremost is the addition of 22 new aerospace and automotive materials. This brings the total material library up to 106 materials, consisting of stainless steels, cast irons, 2000, 6000 and 7000-series aluminums, titanium alloys and many others. Another improvement is the ability to model corner cutting with both indexable tools and solid end mills. This allows simulations of specific processes with exact tool geometries to ensure accuracy of the model.
