A Message from Third Wave Systems

Header

Happy New Year from Third Wave Systems! We hope you had a successful end to 2011 and are preparing for an even stronger 2012. Many great things happened at TWS last year, and while these accomplishments are certainly worth celebrating, it is time to innovate yet again. May your new year be equally challenging and satisfying.

Sincerely,
Kerry Marusich, TWS President

2012 Users Conference Call for Topics

Header

Third Wave Systems is now accepting topic ideas for our 2012 Users Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.

We want to know how you have used our software to improve your machining processes and tool designs! Topic ideas will be accepted
through Wednesday, February 15, 2012 and should include a brief explanation of what would be discussed in the presentation.

Start 2012 with Software Training in California

Header

Third Wave Systems has scheduled one-day training workshops for both AdvantEdge FEM and Production Module in January of 2012. Partnering with California State University, Long Beach, TWS will host complimentary training on January 17 and 18 (that's next week!) for individuals interested in exploring the capabilities of Third Wave software. Companies receive 30-day trial licenses of TWS software. There is no cost to attend TWS workshops.

Get Ready for Tecplot 360

Header

With the upcoming release of AdvantEdge FEM 5.9 (anticipated to be completed during the first quarter of 2012), customers will also receive an updated version of Tecplot. Among the many new functions and enhancements within Tecplot 360:

  • A revamped AdvantEdge Quick Analysis window for easier results display
  • Results overlay feature for easier comparison of chip shape and other simulation results
  • Expanded multi-project display capabilities for comparing more projects at one time
  • New methods for loading and refreshing results from within Tecplot
  • Force filtering options to better capture results for micromachining, milling, and a variety of other conditions
  • New measurement tools for easier data extraction
  • More machining information made available to the user, including tool boundary conditions, vector plots, and nodal forces
  • Formatted data export for further analysis

Production Module 6.0 Released

Header

Production Module 6.0, Third Wave Systems’ most ambitious software update in years, was released on November 21, 2011.  Many capabilities introduced in version 6.0 had been in development for several years, including a highly anticipated upgrade that simulates tool deflection and part distortion as a result of machining.

The Production Module 2D Summary Sheet: New and Improved

Header

Last year, the Production Module 2D Summary Sheet was enhanced to include a new Warning and Error section that documents any errors that occurred with the open project. These items not only alert users to potential analysis errors before they are encountered, but also help users become more informed as to how Production Module 2D processes toolpaths and executes optimization activities.

What do you think of the 2D Summary Sheet changes? Let us know your thoughts at support@thirdwavesys.com.

Did You Know?

Header

Over the past year, TWS dedicated important resources not only to improving our software, but also to migrating to a more scalable computing solution. Today, our new high performance computing cluster consists of 17 nodes with 260 computing cores. This framework is more conducive to the installation of additional nodes in the future, and is currently being used in the development of an HPC client for AdvantEdge FEM. The new cluster allows various TWS teams - including Development, Product Quality, Support, and Applications Engineering - to more efficiently develop and test new capabilities, as well as support our customers.

We're Moving!

Header

In May of 2012, Third Wave Systems will be relocating to a new facility in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. The new site will allow us to house our Productivity Center equipment - including a Mori Seiki NH 6300 and Microlution 363-S - within our headquarters. We are confident this move will enable us to more effectively support customers while fostering increased collaboration between departments. All TWS customers will be provided additional information as the moving date nears, to ensure you experience no break in service or support.
