The development of Third Wave Systems’ software hinges on research projects. Knowledge gained from these activities is then incorporated into future software releases.
TWS is currently expanding efforts to develop a ductile mode machining (DMM) aproach to manufacturing optics for the U.S. Navy. TWS is partnering with Lockeed Martin, the University of Dayton Research Institute, and the University of North Carolina Charlotte to complete the following tasks:
- Enhance and validate physics-based machining models for ceramics
- Assess surface and subsurface characteristics of DMM
- Demonstrate DMM on a full-scale optic
