New Feature Spotlight: Split Line Optimization

Header

When Production Module 5.7 was announced, our customers responded with one question: just what is split line optimization? Touted as one of the new features for both the 2D and 3D software versions, split line optimization further minimizes cutting time and eliminates spikes within long linear moves.

During split line optimization, existing toolpath command lines* are divided into smaller segments based on optimization parameters and a user-defined minimum length. Different feed rates are then applied to these segments, further reducing the cycle time.

Application >>

One command block cuts across a workpiece and into a corner, limiting the original optimization by the force experienced in this corner. Using split line optimization, the feed rate was increased for the straight portion of the cut, reducing the cycle time by an additional 10% over the intial optimization efforts (approximate). Shown below is the comparison between optimization results, both with and without split line optimization (green and red plots, respectively).

Detailed instructions on how to utilize the new split line optimization feature can be found in the Production Module 5.7 user's manuals.
