AdvantEdge FEM New Feature Spotlight: User-Defined Yield Surface

Header

Within AdvantEdge FEM 5.4 is a new feature allowing users to define custom yield surfaces for user-defined constitutive models. This capability represents ongoing efforts by TWS developers to make AdvantEdge FEM 5.4 even more customizeable for users.

Yield surface determines when a material model will switch from elastic to plastic and calculates stress for a given strain; therefore, only experienced users should define these parameters. Because custom material models can be incredibly complex to incorporate, the AdvantEdge FEM 5.4 users manual includes a sample material model defined by Johnson-Cook coefficients. By referencing this sample material model, users should be able to create their own Johnson-Cook coeffient-based custom material models with yield surfaces.

Complete instructions for defining custom yield surfaces set can be found in the AdvantEdge FEM 5.4 users manual, section 11.13.4.
